Equations / Aboveground biomass, without leaves
Birch total above-ground biomass excluding foliage, Model 1a (Eq. 11)
As printed (Eq. 11, p. 612)
In this library's units, ready to compute (kg)
Aboveground biomass, without leaves = exp(-3.654 + 10.582 * (2 + 1.25*D)/((2 + 1.25*D) + 12) + 3.018 * H/(H + 22) + (0.00068 + 0.00727)/2)D- Diameter at breast height (1.3 m), cm
H- Total tree height, m
B. pendula (66% of sample trees) and B. pubescens (34%) pooled. The paper states foliage biomass was not included in the total above-ground biomass, so this is AGB of stem, bark and living + dead branches without leaves. Variance correction (0.00068+0.00727)/2 added to the intercept in both forms. Sanity check: the uncorrected fixed part averaged over the four plot 4_11 trees of Table 7 gives 94.5 kg, matching Predfixed in Table 8.

a variance correction term, (σu² + σe²)/2 … should be added to the intercept
- Trees measured
- 127
- DBH range
- 2.5–38 cm
- Correction factor
- 1.00398 (applied)
- Method
- Multivariate linear mixed model on ln(biomass) with stand random effects (fitted jointly with component equations); fixed part shown, with variance correction (var(u)+var(e))/2 added to the intercept
- Where
- Finland, mineral-soil stands (mostly southern and central Finland)
- Last checked

Shaded: the DBH range the model was fitted on. Other inputs held at the values above.
On every build, the library's form and the paper's own form (in its units) must both give these values within 1%.
| Inputs | Expected | We get | From |
|---|---|---|---|
| D = 20, H = 18 | 153.6 | 153.6 | Computed from the printed form computed from the published form (with variance correction) at d = 20 cm, h = 18 m |
